From December to April, Zurich Airport is the gateway to the Alps. Most major ski resorts lie between two and four and a half hours away – close enough for a transfer without changes, far enough that planning matters. This guide summarises what to consider for a winter transfer with ski luggage.
The key ski routes from Zurich Airport
Davos: around 3 hours 15 minutes. St. Moritz: around 4 hours 15 minutes over the Julier Pass – details in St. Moritz and the Engadin in winter. Ski luggage: free, up to four bags
We carry ski bags and snowboards at no extra charge, up to four per vehicle. In the E-Class this works via the ski hatch for two people with equipment; for families and groups the Business & Family Class (V-Class, up to 7 people and 7 suitcases) is the right choice. Mention ski luggage when booking so the load space is prepared. Boots and helmets belong in the suitcase or a separate bag.
Winter driving times and changeover Saturdays
Snowfall, clearing and column traffic noticeably extend driving times from the mountains. On changeover Saturdays during the Christmas, sports and Easter holidays, holiday traffic is added. For the return to the airport, allow at least 45 minutes of buffer on the normal driving time, one hour when snowfall is forecast – the calculation is in When to leave for Zurich Airport?. Early booking: why it matters in winter
High season between Christmas and New Year, the February sports holidays and the WEF in Davos in January tie up capacity.
