Around 4 hours 15 minutes, fixed price from CHF 638.00 per vehicle, Julier or Vereina: how the transfer to St. Moritz, Pontresina, Silvaplana and Sils works reliably in winter.
St. Moritz is the epitome of the Alpine winter – and lies at the end of a long but spectacular journey. From Zurich Airport it is around 213 km to the Upper Engadin; the final stage crosses the Julier Pass or uses the car-train through the Vereina tunnel. Anyone arriving in winter should know the route. This article explains route, duration, price and planning with ski luggage.
Route, duration, price
The Zurich Airport–St. Moritz transfer runs via the A3 and A13 through the Rhine Valley to Chur, then via Thusis and the Julier Pass into the Engadin. In normal traffic we plan around 255 minutes. The fixed price starts at CHF 638.00 per vehicle in the Business Class, including 60 minutes of waiting time after landing, flight tracking, child seats and VAT. For Pontresina, Silvaplana, Sils, Celerina or Samedan simply enter the address in the booking form; we confirm the price before booking.
Julier Pass or Vereina?
The Julier Pass is open all year and well cleared in winter; it is the standard route. In heavy snowfall or avalanche risk the driver switches to the car-train through the Vereina tunnel between Klosters and Sagliains – he decides on the day based on road conditions. Nothing changes for you: the fixed price remains, you sit in the same vehicle. A stop in Chur or Tiefencastel is possible on request at any time.
Winter planning: buffer, luggage, children
In winter we recommend 45 minutes to an hour of buffer on the normal driving time – especially on changeover Saturdays during the Christmas and sports holidays. We carry ski bags free of charge (up to four per vehicle); for families and groups with equipment the Business & Family Class is the right choice, see How many suitcases really fit?. And if you land late: we drive to the Engadin at night too – book in advance, more in Late-night arrival at Zurich Airport.
Why the transfer to the Engadin is the most relaxed choice
The train to the Engadin is scenically magnificent, but involves changes in Chur or Landquart and luggage across cold platforms. The transfer takes you without interruption from the arrivals hall to the hotel door – after a long-haul flight with children and skis, the difference between travelling and arriving.
