High above the city on the wooded slopes of the Adlisberg, The Dolder Grand rises with its turrets from 1899 – joined by the curved wings with which Foster + Partners brought the hotel into the present in 2008. From the terrace the view stretches over Zurich and the lake and, on clear days, all the way to the Alps.
Because the hotel sits on the hillside rather than in the centre, the trip from the airport is shorter than many expect: around 11 kilometres. Your chauffeur meets you in the arrivals hall and drives you right up to the main entrance – at a fixed price per vehicle, luggage included.
The drive and arriving at the hotel
The drive usually takes about 20 minutes. Depending on traffic it goes via Dübendorf and up through the forest or through the city; your driver decides based on current conditions. The last stretch climbs Kurhausstrasse into the hotel's forecourt.
If you want to pop into town, the Dolderbahn – a small rack railway – links Römerhof with the hotel grounds. For appointments with luggage or in the evening, a transfer is more convenient.
Tips for your stay
- Travelling with a golf bag or lots of luggage? Choose the V-Class – it takes up to seven suitcases.
- For dinner in town and the ride back up the hill an hourly booking is worth it: the driver waits and you don't need to hunt for a taxi.
- Early flight? The airport is close, but we still recommend a pick-up two and a half hours before European departures.
