How the price is made up

The price of the Zurich Airport–Lucerne transfer is a fixed price per vehicle, not per person. It is calculated from our per-kilometre tariff and depends only on the vehicle class you choose – not on traffic, detours or how long the baggage belt takes. You see it in the booking form before you confirm anything, and it does not change afterwards.

Included are VAT, meet & greet with a name sign in the arrivals hall, 60 minutes of waiting time after the actual landing, flight tracking, your luggage including ski bags, and child seats. The only variable is the time of day: between midnight and 6 am a night tariff of 20 % applies, which is also shown in the price straight away. Weekends and public holidays cost nothing extra.

The route: through the Knonaueramt to Lake Lucerne

From the airport the drive first follows Zurich's northern bypass through the Gubrist tunnel into the Limmat valley, then through the Uetliberg tunnel onto the A4. This runs through the rural Knonaueramt towards Zug; at Rotkreuz the driver switches to the A14 and reaches Lucerne from the north. Depending on your destination he takes the Luzern-Zentrum, Emmen or Kriens exit.

On a clear day you see the first foothills of the Alps after half an hour. On this distance you normally need no break; if you would still like a short stop after a long-haul flight, just tell the driver – Zug or Rotkreuz are possible without much of a detour.

When it takes longer

The critical points are all at the start and the end of the route. Around the Gubrist and in the Limmat valley traffic builds up on weekdays between roughly 6:30 and 9 am and between 4 and 7 pm. In Lucerne itself, the city approaches are busy in the late afternoon and on sunny summer weekends, when day-trippers head for the lake.

For your arrival you need to do nothing: the driver tracks your flight and knows the traffic situation. For the return to the airport, however, the right pickup time is decisive. Which vehicle fits?

The choice depends less on the number of people than on the luggage. As a rule of thumb:

• Business Class (E-Class): up to 2 people with one large suitcase each – ideal for couples and business travellers.
• Business & Family Class (V-Class): up to 7 people and 7 suitcases – for families, groups, ski equipment or pushchairs.
• Premium Class (S-Class): up to 3 people with maximum comfort – for special occasions and demanding guests.

Arriving in Lucerne: hotels, old town and lakeshore

The grand hotels on Haldenstrasse and Schweizerhofquai are driven right up to the entrance. The old town around the Chapel Bridge, Weinmarkt and Kornmarkt, on the other hand, is largely pedestrianised. Here the driver drops you at the nearest possible point, often Schwanenplatz or Rathausquai, and carries the luggage to the door if needed.

What you can reach from Lucerne

Lucerne is the ideal base for Central Switzerland. Pilatus can be reached year-round by gondola from Kriens, while the cogwheel railway from Alpnachstad runs in the summer half of the year. Transfer or train? An honest assessment

The train from the airport to Lucerne is good, but depending on the connection it involves a change at Zurich HB. For solo travellers with hand luggage and a hotel near the station it is often the most sensible solution.

The transfer wins as soon as one of these applies: you travel as two or more, you have several suitcases, skis or a pushchair, your hotel is not next to the station or is outside the city, you land late in the evening, or after a long flight you simply do not want to change trains with luggage. Seasons and events in Lucerne

Lucerne is in demand all year, but especially at certain times. In summer the Lucerne Festival with concerts at the KKL and the steamer season on Lake Lucerne draw visitors; hotels are then often full weeks in advance. During Lucerne Fasnacht in February the old town is in festive mood for days and partly closed to traffic – the driver then chooses a drop-off point on the edge. Is the price per person or per vehicle?

What happens if my flight is delayed?
