SWISS lounges, Aspire, Marhaba, Primeclass: Zurich has one of Europe's largest lounge selections. Which lounge is in which area, who gets in with frequent-flyer status, a credit card or a day pass, why your gate decides – and how to use the time before departure without rushing.
A lounge turns waiting time into rest: a quiet seat, something to eat, good Wi-Fi, sometimes a shower after a night flight. As the SWISS hub, Zurich is particularly well equipped – with numerous airline lounges and several independent lounges that are accessible even without a business-class ticket.
This guide explains which lounges exist, where they are, how to get access and what to watch out for. Access rules and prices change; check the details before you travel on the website of the airport, your airline or your lounge programme.
First things first: your gate decides
Zurich Airport has two zones beyond security: the Schengen area with gates A and B in the Airside Center, and the non-Schengen area with gates D and E, for which you pass through passport control. Lounges in Dock E can only be reached by the Skymetro.
For your choice of lounge this means: if you fly within Europe in the Schengen area, only lounges in the Airside Center are an option. If you fly to London, Dubai or New York, choose a lounge on the non-Schengen side. How the airport is laid out is explained in Zurich Airport explained simply.
The lounges at a glance
A simplified overview of the main lounges (as of October 2026):
| Lounge | Area | Access (simplified) |
|---|---|---|
| SWISS Business, Senator and First Lounges | Airside Center (A/B), gates D and Dock E | Ticket class or status with SWISS and Star Alliance |
| Aspire Lounge | Airside Center (Schengen) | Lounge programmes, day pass |
| Marhaba Lounge | Airside Center (Schengen) | Lounge programmes, day pass |
| Aspire Lounge E | Dock E (non-Schengen) | Lounge programmes, day pass |
| Primeclass Lounge | Dock E (non-Schengen) | Lounge programmes, day pass, partner airlines |
| Airline lounges, e.g. Emirates | Dock E | Premium guests of the respective airline |
The SWISS lounges
As SWISS's home airport, Zurich has the largest network of SWISS lounges: Business Lounges for guests with a business-class ticket, Senator Lounges for frequent flyers with high status and First Lounges for first-class passengers. They are located in all areas, so you will usually find a lounge near your gate.
Depending on the lounge, access is granted to guests with the relevant ticket on SWISS and many Star Alliance partners, as well as holders of a suitable frequent-flyer status. If you are flying with another Star Alliance airline, you can often use the SWISS lounges too.
Independent lounges: open to everyone
If you have no status and fly economy, you are not excluded. The Aspire lounges, the Marhaba Lounge and the Primeclass Lounge admit guests regardless of airline and class – with a day pass or through lounge programmes such as Priority Pass, which are often included in premium credit cards.
At peak times, for example early in the morning and in the afternoon before the long-haul departures, these lounges can be full and entry is then limited. If you want to be sure, reserve a day pass in advance where the lounge offers this.
Who a lounge is worthwhile for
A lounge is worthwhile above all if you have a longer wait: connections of more than two hours, delays, after a night flight when you want a shower, or if you need to work before departure. For families with small children the quieter space is often worth its weight in gold.
On a short stay of under an hour, by contrast, the gain is small, especially if your gate is in Dock E and you still have passport control and the Skymetro ahead of you. How much time to allow before departure is explained in How early should you be at Zurich Airport?.
Arrival lounges: not really an option
Unlike some hubs, Zurich has no large range of arrival lounges for all travellers. If you land after a night flight, there are alternatives, though: hotels right at the airport partly offer day-use rooms, and after arrival you are usually out quickly.
It is most relaxed when nobody has to search after landing: your driver waits with a name sign in the arrivals hall, and the 60 minutes of waiting time only start with the actual landing. Hotel ideas are in Hotels at Zurich Airport.
For business travellers and VIPs
For particularly discreet or fast processes, Zurich Airport offers its own VIP service with separate handling. For business travellers who fly regularly from Zurich, status and credit card programmes that include lounge access are also worth a look.
Combined with a transfer that drops you right in front of the departures hall, the way from the office to the gate becomes as short as possible. Tips for efficient business trips are in Business travel Zurich: 5 habits.
