Lauberhorn Races Wengen 2027: Programme, Tickets, Accommodation and Getting to Car-Free Wengen

From 15 to 17 January 2027 the world's best ski racers tackle the longest downhill in the World Cup. What you should know about the programme, tickets, viewing spots and accommodation – and how to get from Zurich Airport to car-free Wengen with your luggage.

Once a year Wengen becomes the centre of the ski world. The Lauberhorn races are among the most traditional World Cup races of all, and the Lauberhorn downhill is the longest downhill in the World Cup – with sections such as the Hundschopf, the Kernen-S and the Hanegg-Schuss that every ski fan knows. Tens of thousands of spectators follow the races against the backdrop of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

This guide explains the programme and tickets, gives tips on viewing spots and accommodation, and shows how to travel from Zurich Airport to Wengen, which can only be reached by train.

Tickets and viewing spots

According to the organiser, tickets for the 2027 Lauberhorn races are available from 2 November 2026 and can only be booked online. There is access to the finish area in Innerwengen, places along the course and hospitality packages on the Wengernalp.

The finish area offers big screens, atmosphere and the finish line; if you want to see the racers up close in the key sections, stand along the course, for example at the Hundschopf or the Ziel-S. Places on the course are reached by the Wengernalp railway and on foot – allow time and wear shoes with good grip.

A traditional highlight is the Patrouille Suisse air display over the course. In the evenings the World Cup village in Wengen celebrates with bib draws, award ceremonies and bars.

Accommodation: Wengen, Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken

Hotels in Wengen are booked out very early for race weekend. If you want to stay there, book in summer or autumn. Good alternatives are Lauterbrunnen, only 15 minutes by train from Wengen, as well as Interlaken, Wilderswil or Grindelwald. From Grindelwald you can also reach Kleine Scheidegg and the upper course by train.

Which village suits you is explained in Jungfrau region for beginners.

Getting there from Zurich Airport: how it works

Wengen is car-free. The transfer therefore takes you to Lauterbrunnen, where you change to the Wengernalp railway; the ride up to Wengen takes about a quarter of an hour. On our fixed route we plan about 160 minutes to Lauterbrunnen, via Lucerne and the Brünig or via Bern. Details are on the page Transfer to Wengen.

The driver drops you at Lauterbrunnen station and helps with the luggage to the train. In Wengen many hotels take luggage from the station to the hotel with electric vehicles – ask your hotel. If you stay in Lauterbrunnen or Interlaken, you are driven right to the door.

On race weekend the trains between Lauterbrunnen and Wengen are very busy, and the roads into the Lauterbrunnen valley fill up. If possible, arrive on Thursday and allow a generous buffer for the return trip on Sunday after the slalom.

Luggage, clothing and equipment

In mid-January it is cold in Wengen, and on the course you often stand in the snow for hours. Warm shoes, ski trousers, a hat, gloves and sunglasses belong in your luggage. If you want to ski yourself as well as watch, bring your equipment: we carry ski bags free of charge, up to four per vehicle.

For groups of ski fans or families of up to seven the V-Class is ideal; the fixed price is per vehicle. More on the winter season is in The best ski resorts from Zurich Airport.

Sunday return: plan it properly

After the second slalom run many spectators want to go down to the valley at the same time. The trains are then full, and queues form in Lauterbrunnen. If you fly on Sunday evening, calculate generously: time from the course to the station, the train to Lauterbrunnen, the roughly 160-minute drive to the airport and the time at the airport. How to calculate the pickup time is shown in How early should you be at Zurich Airport?.

The most relaxed approach is to agree a fixed pickup time in Lauterbrunnen and take a train earlier than planned. Message us on WhatsApp if you are running late; the driver will wait.

Wengen with family and non-skiers

The Lauberhorn races are an experience for families and guests without skis too. The finish area in Innerwengen can be reached on foot from Wengen, big screens show the whole course, and the World Cup village offers food, music and entertainment. For small children we recommend warm layers and breaks in one of the village cafés.

If you prefer to avoid the bustle, watch the races on one day and spend the other days in quieter Mürren, in Grindelwald or on a boat trip from Interlaken. The Jungfrau region offers plenty of alternatives, and the railways connect every village.
